        "  東伯郡北条町に生まれる。\n  1916(大正５)年 東京美術学校（現 東京芸術大学）に入学し、藤島武二に師事する。1920(大正９)年「砂丘社」の創立に参加。二科展・帝展に入選する。1922(大正11)年には平和記念東京博覧会で褒状を受賞し、渡仏する。\n  留学中、クールベの写実主義に傾倒し、風景・婦人像等を描く。1925(大正14)年 帰国し、帝展で特選を受賞する。翌年、里見勝蔵らと「1930年協会」を創立し、大胆な作風で画壇に新風を送る。また、「前田写実研究所」を開設し、新写実主義を提唱し、後進の育成にもあたる。\n  帝展では再度特選、無鑑査となり、1929(昭和4)年第10回帝展出品の『海』は帝国美術院賞を受ける。"
